Unusually
quiet beach in Korea
Korean
beaches and oceans are not competitive as destinations. But you can experience
a very unusual crowded beach, or find some very quiet places. I visited an
island in the west coast that is far beyond from a travel destination.
한국의 해변이나 바다는 여행지로서 경쟁력이 없다. 하지만 아주 이례적으로 붐비는 곳 해변을 경험하거나, 아주 조용한
곳을 몇 군데 찾을 수 있다. 여행지가 아닌 서해안의 섬을 방문해 보았다.
I boarded the
ferry departing early in the morning. There was also a rapid boat going to Dochodo(Island).
It has doubled in speed and twice in price. As a Travelers who are not busy get
on a slow one.
아침 일찍 출발하는 페리에 탑승하였다. 도초도로 가는 쾌속선도 있었다. 속도가 두배이고 가격도 두배이다. 바쁠 것이 없는 여행자는 느린 배를 탄다.

The sea wind
was cold and I could not stand for more than 20 minutes. Nevertheless, the
problem was that I wanted to stay outside. Well, it was because of the
passenger’s room that I had never seen before. It was an Korean floor style cabin
without a chair. I was alone. The cabin was already full with Go-Stop player and
people lying like crayon.
바다바람이 차서 20분
이상 서 있을 수 없었다. 그런데 문제는 계속 밖에 있고 싶은 것이었다. 글쎄 난생처음보는 형태의 객실 이었기 때문이다. 의자가 없는 온돌식
선실이었다. 난 혼자인데 선실은 이미 꽉 들어 찼다. 고스톱을
치는 분들과 흩어 논 크레파스처럼 뒤섞여 누워계신 분들이었다.

어떡하지 어떡하지
I stood and
watched the sea while enduring. The crew told me that I might get a cold. So I forced
into the cabin. I sat in a narrow corner. Space was wider than thought. Then it
got a little wider. I leaned to one side. Then I lay down. The center part was
warm. I looked for warmth and moved like a cat. As the islands passed, their space
wider, and I stretched straight in the middle. Finally, it was very comfortable.
견디고 견디면서 바다를 보았다. 선원 할아버지께서 감기 걸린다며 들어가라 하시길래 억지로 밀려 선실로 들어갔다. 좁은 구석에 쑤시고 구겨 앉았다. 공간이 생각보다는 넓었다. 그리곤 조금씩 넓어졌다. 한쪽으로 기대었다. 그 다음에 누웠다. 가운데 쪽이 따듯했다. 따스함을 찾아 고양이처럼 움직였다. 섬들을 지날수록 자리는 넓어졌고
어느새 한가운데 두 다리 쭉 뻗고 있었다. 결국에는 엄청 편했다.
Beach
and trail
When you
arrive at Dochodo, you can see the small group of accommodation, supermarket
and restaurant. These are all the facilities that travelers can use. Both Dochodo
and Bigeumdo(Islands) are not travel Destination. So accommodation and
restaurants are very limited. Burgers are not imaginable. Bigeumdo has bit more.
After finding accommodation, filling the stomach, and walking for 4 km. You can
find a beach. There was a lot of fine sand in Shimok beach. Nothing was there.
There were no people, no seagulls. I sat. I lay down. I sat again. I spent
quite a long time and still noting. The fine sand was shiny white and the beach
was calm over all the time.
도초도에 도착하면 슈퍼와 식당 숙소가 보인다. 여행자가 이용할 수 있는 시설은 그게 전부이다. 도초도와 비금도
모두 여행자가 방문하는 곳은 아니기 때문에 숙박, 식당이 매우 제한적이다. 햄버거는 상상 할 수도 없는 분위기 이다. 다리로 연결된 비금도로
건너간다면 좀 더 있다. 숙소를 구하고, 배를 채운 뒤, 4km만 걸어가면 해변이 있다. 시목해수욕장엔 엄청 고운 모래가
깔려있었다. 그리고 아무도 없었다. 사람도 없었고, 갈매기도 없었다. 누웠다가 엎드렸다가 앉았다. 꽤 긴 시간을 보냈는데 아무도 오지 않았다. 곱디고운 모래는 새하얗게
빛이 났고 감사진 해변은 잔잔했다.
There is a trail
at the end of Shimok beach that along the shore. It does not appear clearly on information
and the entrance is narrow. I just went up with curiosity and amazed. It is a
part of Dadohae marine national park. As you walk along the long promenade, new
landscapes and ocean view are revealed. The road suddenly finished, leaving a
few steps. Through the reeds, into the mud, and the thorn bush appeared.
시목해수욕장 끝에 해안가를 둘러 올라가는 트레킹코스가 있다. 아무런 지도에도 나오지 않고, 입구도 좁고 표지도 없다. 그저 호기심에 올라가 보았는데, 깜짝 놀랄 광경이 펼쳐졌다. 다도해상국립공원이다. 길게 이어지는 산책로를 따라 걷다 보면 또
새로운 풍경, 새로운 바다가 모습을 드러냈다. 몇 발짝을
남기고 갑자기 길이 끊기긴 했다. 갈대를 헤치고, 흙에 빠지고, 가시덤불이 나타났다. 생전 처음 보는 가시덤불 이었다.

street
I saw a car
pass by around 2:30. I decided to hitchhike and walked slowly, it was calm. I
felt lonely. It was then. Suddenly I met one creature. Like fate. It was cattle.
As soon as I found the cattle, the cattle found me. We were both lonely because
we could not talk. By the way, I have never seen a cow in a zoo. So this is the
second of my life. It is the limitation of new town kids. I rather saw more
tigers. Finally, the hitchhike failed. 0 car passed.
2시 30분경에 차 한대가 지나가는 것을 보았다. 히치하이킹을 결심하고
천천히 걷는데, 고요하기만 하다. 부쩍 외로움이 느껴졌다. 그때였다. 갑자기 눈이 마주쳤다.
운명처럼. 소였다. 내가 소를 발견하는 순간
소도 나를 발견하였다. 이야기를 나눌 수는 없었기 때문에 서로 외로웠다. 희안하게도 동물원에서는 소를 본적이 없다. 그래서 이게 생전 두번째
보는 소이다. 신도시 키즈의 한계이다. 차라리 호랑이를 더
많이 보았다. 끝내 히치하이킹은 실패했다.
Unusual
experiences
There is a
bigger shopping street(?) in the bridge connected Bigeumdo. Bigum means eagle,
but there are times when It interpreted as an island where gold is flying.
Because there was a salt pond and earned a lot of money.
다리로 연결된 비금도에는 좀더 큰 번화가가 있다. 비금은 독수리란 뜻이지만, 염전이 많아 소금으로 돈을 많이 벌던
시절에는 금이 날아다니는 섬이라는 우스개 소리도 있었다.
In the Bigeumdo,
I experienced a lot of very unusual conversations. All accompanied by a very
intense accent.
비금도에서는 아주 특이한 대화를 많이 경험했다.
"Get on
behind me"
One eldely
man accidentally offer a scooter riding. I experienced a reverse hitchhike.
" 타부러라잉 "
어떤 할아버지는 갑자기 스쿠터 뒤에 태워 주신다고 한다. 역 히치하이킹을 경험했다.
“Where are
you going?”
They ask the
destination of the stranger.
" 어디가는가~아?"
길에서 처음본 사람의 행선지를 의례 묻는다
“What is your
father’s name?”
Ask my
parents. Because, no traveler is considered.
" 늬
아부지가 누구냐잉 ?"
다짜고짜 부모님을 묻는다.
여행자는 없다고 간주한다.
“Stay my
home. I will lend you a bike as well”
I could not
actually follow.
" 우리
집서 자구가라~ 자전거 줄텐게 타고다녀부러라잉"
사실 따라가보지는 못했다.
This
experience makes me smile :)
생각만 해도 미소가 지어진다.
